or "Why I write Fanfic" (from a professional author)
By Minisnoo
http://minisinoo.livejournal.com/123451.html
I'm sure that anyone who's been in fanfic any length of time has heard, at least once, that if s/he wants to become a serious writer s/he should quit writing fanfic and start writing original stories. Or fanfic is dubbed the "training ground" for"real" fiction. Or fanfic is pooh-poohed altogether as something no self-respecting writer would do. However it's phrased, the implication is clear. Real (Professional) Writers Don't Write Fanfic.
Phooey.
:-)
Now, that mature opinion expressed, there IS some truth to the warnings. They're just oversimplified.
